Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble

The Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble was formed in 1996 as a part of the Spartanburg Community Band organization. The band consists of a mix of professional and amateur players who are bound together by their love of big band music.

The SJE presents 6-8 concerts a year at various venues in the Upstate, including the Chapman Center, Furman University, Wofford College, and our summer concert series at Converse University.

"Over the years, we have performed at Spartanburg's Jazz on the Square series, Fall For Greenville, Red, White, and Boom, and many other events."

The band plays everything from classic big band tunes to modern compositions, many of which are written by our director, Dr. Tom Wright. The band also features two local vocalists, Darin Dotson and WSPA TV's Diane Lee.
